Description
Kumiko, used in Japanese architecture, is a technique of cutting and fitting wood to just the right size without using nails.I was asked to make a kit of parts made from natural Akita cedar, focusing on the part closest to the core. What can be made are Kumiko ornaments. The hemp leaf pattern, which is meant to protect against misfortune, is very popular.
The workbord is made of paulownia wood, and the mallet is a cute set with rounded corners.
All are made in Japan of natural wood. The finished work shown in the photo is not included. There are only kit parts.
Size of workbord: 1.3cmx30cmx22cm
The finished product measures 8.5 cm at its longest part and can be used as a kumiko decoration or a coaster for a sake cup.
